Katie Macaluso

Katie Macaluso's career started in pharmaceutical research before she joined the North Dakota Army National Guard. She deployed to Afghanistan from February 2006 until February 2007. Upon return she finished her Bachelor's of University Studies from North Dakota State University in 2008. She earned her Master of Science Physician Assistant Studies from Philadelphia University in 2011. She started her PA career working in a psychiatric emergency room in Philadelphia. She has experience in; inpatient hospitals, detoxes, rehabs, and has been doing outpatient psychiatry in underserved areas for more than four years. 


Katie sees medication as a part of treatment for mental health, but without lifestyle modifications and therapy optimum response is difficult to obtain. She has a trauma focused view on mental health. For overall physical and mental health, it is important to recognize and heal past traumas. Katie wants to normalize conversations around mental health. She has strong experience working with depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorders, schizophrenia, substance use disorders, and remains committed to care for veterans.


Katie is originally from Minnesota. She moved to North Carolina in 2017. She enjoys spending time with her husband, two children and her pets.
